Members Area & On-Line Bookings

To access the Members area at the bottom of the page, use the shortened christian name of the Sailing Secretary (lower case) as the User Name, and the year the Club was founded as the Password. This area includes membership application forms, subscription details and sections of the 2012 Year Book (including the programme but not the address section), Club Rules (new Nov 11) & FAQs (new Jan 12).

Many thanks to those of you who are using the on-line booking system (access via the "Social" menu above) for meals/Club events & WightLink tickets. If you click on the link you will get a simple form; when you "submit" it you will then get a confirmation link from Bravenet - just click "confirm" at the bottom of the page and it will end up at the office.

For those who prefer to use Red Funnel (Southampton - Cowes or Cowes - Southampton), there is a 10% discount if you access the Red Funnel on-line booking system through the "Red Funnel" link you will find under the "Links" menu above. So long as you use the BSC website link, the 10% reduction is automatically applied to the fares (each way) you will be offered.

News Update

12 - 13 May

Meetings weekend, albeit the Sailing Committee had an afternoon off as it was decided that there was no need for them to meet as everything was running to plan. However, it was eyes down for the Wine & House and the Management Committees!

Saturday evening's "Olympic" evening was a great sucess with just under 50 members dining and listening to Jonathan Janson (Bronze medal in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics sailing a Dragon), Ian Macdonald-Smith (Gold medal in the 1968 Mexico Olympics sailing a Flying Dutchman), Edmund Peel (Olympic campaigner in a Star) and Serena Gosling (working for LOCOG 2012) talk about their experiences and in Serena's case what London 2012 involves! Ian brought along his Gold medal and generously allowed it to be passed round.

No takers for Friday evening's racing. On Saturday nine Redwings started in the gentle North Westerly breeze that sadly dropped (as forecast) on the second round. Bruce Huber in No 30 (Quail) with Edmund Peel crewing had a convincingly lead ahead of Colin Samuelsin in No 11 (Toucan) who managed to keep ahead of Matt Alexander in No 18 (Harlequin). Only four Redwings raced on Sunday afternoon which was a pity as conditions were excellent in a steady F4 South Westerly breeze. Joe Roberston in No 24 (Red Gauntlet II) was ahead at the first mark and although never far behind, Colin Samuelson in No 11 (Toucan) was unable to overtake. No One-Designs either day.

We are now an RYA "Partner" and will earn commission on any books ordered through the RYA web-shop; also on new RYA membership. To order/become a member click here.

The Harbour Authority have recently published the inaugural edition of their bi-annual magazine (Bembridge Breeze) - initially click here to read it.

Please read the important notice below regarding the on-going building work.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Building works for the new Sailing Office, and refurbishment of the Balcony started on Monday 19th March 2012, and is expected to last for 10 weeks.

Stoneham Construction, who has been appointed the contractor, will temporarily be using the Ball Shed to store tools and materials. Please ask in the office if there is anything that you need from there.

Please take extreme care when moving about the Club premises as there may be materials and debris on the move. Work areas are screened off, but there is limited access to the balcony at the moment. There are obvious walkways to follow below the balcony from the Illusion side to the Dinghy Park entrance.

Please take extra care if you need to pick your way through the boats on the gravel.

We do apologise for any inconvenience to our members but it is all for the future good of the Club. Any queries should be directed to the Club Secretary.

Internal Stair Way for Sale

The stairway to the attic above the office is being replaced; please contact the Club Secretary as soon as possible if you are interested in putting in an offer for it.
